Amelia Poon has been displaying a selection of her quite incredible ‘Mobile Series’ in The Zavvi store within The Grafton Centre for a while now. The good news is that they are still up for all to see!

Amelia creates her sculptures out of “recycled newspapers, meticulously rolled up one by one in the name of Optical Art” and the results are absolutely spectacular. They really are truly incredible pieces of work that deserve serious praise and attention.

On that note, it is important to mention that a selection of the works on display have been shortlisted for a number of prestigious shows and competitions including The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2010, The London International Creative Competition and The Threadneedle Prize 2010.

Mr Penfold is a fascinating chap with talent to burn. When he asked me about the Changing Spaces project in the Empress pub one lovely evening I was more than happy to tell him about our mission statement and why we endeavor to do what we do. As an artist heavily influenced by the street scene (he skates the streets, stickers the streets, push bikes the streets and even has a street named after him) he expressed an interest in taking part in the project as it (and I quote)…

“Represents an interesting grey patch between the street scene and gallery spaces.”

Mr Penfold’s global hypercolour offerings are currently on display in our 71 Bridge Street unit for your viewing pleasure BUT NOT FOR LONG!! So why not head down for a look?

Changing Spaces has opened its first exhibition in cooperation with a second-hand bookshop in Cambridge.
Plurabelle Books hosts the show “The Stories that Follow Black Pictures” a cooperation investigating text+image relations initiated by illustrator Lisa Wilkens and a group of writers from a creative writing course that took place at the bookshop lead by writer Jane Elizabeth Monson. A great chance to see the exhibition and listen to the Stories read by their creators will be next Friday 11th June, 6 – 8 pm at:

38 Regent Street shows one of Cambridge’s most exciting young Painters: Enzo Sgaramella.

” All examples of my works are based on a careful observation of everyday life, analyzed at different levels of depth, translated into shapes and colours.
I try to give a form to aspects of everyday life, translating what is visible such as houses, cars, trees or human-beings and things which are not visible like feelings, thoughts, ideas and concepts.
This operation requires a balanced combination of reason and instinct.
I combine these elements using different ways of drawing: logical to stylize or minimise the shapes, and analogical to express feelings, emotions and to reach its essentials.”

52 Regent Street shows another very talented painter: Miranda Boulton
She is showing her new work “connected” and “moving on” inspired by the Cornwall landscape.

58 Regent Street is showing vibrant and colourful work of Chris Mann:

“My work has never been created with the intention of having it displayed publicly. In fact over the last 20 years it has always provided a far more personal outlet for my creative impulse and as a visual counterpart to the music I create. For me there is no choice in making these works as they would be (and are) made whether I want to make them or not.”

The current exhibtion in UNIT 30 – Grafton Centre Blagart turned out to be a great success. Artists have already sold work and we had over 500 visitors since the opening on the 22nd May. Come down and have a look at the great works of Alex Evans and Co. that is still around until 5th June.
